Boat Fire Hospitalizes Burn Victim In Bay Shore: FD

A boat fire in Bay Shore sent one burn victim to Stony Brook University Hospital's burn center on Sunday, Suffolk County police say.

BAY SHORE, NY — A boat fire hospitalized a woman on Sunday in Bay Shore, Suffolk County police told Patch.

At around 10: 45 a.m. on Sunday, the Islip Fire Department and the Exchange Ambulance of the Islips were dispatched to a report of a boat fire with one burn victim at Long Island Yacht Sales in Bay Shore, fire department officials said.

Upon arrival, crews found a docked 27’ sailboat in the canal which had a flash fire from an onboard alcohol stove in the cabin that caused burns to the adult occupant and burned out on its own, officials said.

The victim had "significant" not not life-threatening burns and was transported to the burn center at Stony Brook University Hospital.

The cause was determined to be an accidental ignition and the scene was turned over to the Suffolk County Police.
