Brentwood School District Budget Vote: What You Need To Know

Here's what you need to know before you cast your ballot in Brentwood.

BRENTWOOD, NY — Brentwood residents will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the 2023 to 2024 school budget vote and school board candidate election.

The Brentwood School District's proposed budget of $561,203,261 represents a budget-to-budget increase of 11.49 percent and a zero percent tax levy increase. It is the district's third year with no tax levy increase for residents and its fourth year with the same tax levy, its website said.

Funds are included for the possible acquisition and renovation of a building, the district website said. In addition, funds are included to complete Phases I and II of the High School turf field project. This will include the soccer stadium, press box, pavilion and the football field. In
addition, funds are included to expand storage areas at Sonderling and Loretta Park.

"With a highly successful year underway, we are excited to again present a budget with no tax impact to residents for 2023-2024," said the Brentwood School District Board of Education on its website. "We have been able to do this thanks to the long-term financial planning of our business administration, as well as increases in our aid."

Four candidates are running for two open Board of Education seats.

Brandon Garcia and Elvia Salinas-Kahyaoglu are running for Seat 1. The position's incumbent is Maria Gonzalez Precot.

Eileen Harman and Donovan Currey are running for Seat 2. The position's incumbent is Simone Kolder Daniel.

The annual budget vote for the fiscal year 2023-24 by qualified voters of the Brentwood School District, will be held at Hemlock Park, Laurel Park, Loretta Park, North Elementary, Northeast, Oak Park, Pine Park, Southeast, and Southwest school(s).

Polls will open at 8 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.
