Veterans were honored by residents of the Bristal at East Northport in two socially-distanced in-person and Zoom ceremonies, creating a poignant reflection of our times in the midst of the COVID pandemic.

Suffolk County Legislator, Susan A. Berland addressed the residents of the Bristal at Eat Northport, thanking them for their service as Executive Director, Bonnie Hope handed out proclamations that Legislator Berland had prepared a few days earlier. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard veterans, of WWII – The Greatest Generation, each received a single red rose representing their comrades and fellow residents who had served but are no longer with us, some in military battle others in battle with Covid-19.
Earlier in the day, Recreation Director Barbara Heaphy met with Susan Hopper, Acting Administrator on Duty, of the Northport Veterans Medical Center, to drop of gifts of crocheted blankets made by the Bristal at East Northport Helping Hands Crochet for a Cause group. It was important for Bristal residents and staff to remember all veterans, and remind them they are appreciated and not forgotten.
