Central Islip Bakery Owners Honored For Contribution To Community

Salvadoran couple Ana and Jose Vasquez opened the community staple three years ago.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter recently visited Lela’s Bakery in Central Islip recently, to congratulate the owners for their contribution to the local community.

Salvadoran couple Ana and Jose Vasquez opened the business located on 70 West Suffolk Avenue, three years ago through a combination of hard work and savings for over 20 years.

Together with their two oldest sons, the couple works in the bakery which specializes in Central American breads, cakes and cuisine. Lela’s offers familiar bakery favorites and more, with a welcomed Salvadoran twist.

The gracious and hospitable owners can regularly be seen moving in and out of the kitchen and dining room, greeting each customer with a smile—a favor often returned to them once customers bite down on any of their delicious treats.

“Ana and Jose are a shining example of what can be achieved in this great country, through fortitude and perseverance," Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. "Lela’s Bakery brings a wide variety of authentic Central American foods and pastries to the Town of Islip and surrounding communities."

Carpenter recently presented Lela’s Bakery with a Certificate of Recognition, and thanked the proud husband-and-wife team for their contributions in working to further enrich the Islip community.
