Funeral Set For West Islip Fire Department Honorary Chief

Islip Fire Department said Honorary Chief Ronald W. Pfuhl 'answered his last alarm' on April 27.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Islip Fire Department Honorary Chief Ronald W. Pfuhl, 81, died on April 27, according to Overton Funeral Home.

Pfuhl was a life-long member of Hook & Ladder Company #1, the first company in the Islip Fire Department.

He is the father of ex-chief Ronald W. Pfuhl and earned the title of Honorary Chief after serving the fire department for over 50 years.

The fire department shared the news of Pfuhl's passing on its Facebook page on Sunday, writing:

"It is with deep regret that the chiefs office announces that Honorary Chief and 62-year member Ronald W. Pfuhl has answered his last alarm. Funeral arrangements will be announced when they become available. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pfuhl family."

On Monday, the fire department announced that visitation will take place Thursday, May 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home at with a firematic service at 7:30 p.m.

According to Pfuhl's obituary, he died in Hardeeville, South Carolina.

Overton Funeral Home is located at 172 Main Street in Islip.

Islip Fire Department Chief Jared M. Gunst was not immediately available for comment.
