LI’s Reality Check Youth #TakeDownTobacco

Show Big Tobacco we will not be fooled any longer. Join Realty Check Youth on April 1st to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco.

April 1st is Taking Down Tobacco Day, a national day of action that empowers people to stand up and speak out against the tobacco industry. Tobacco Action Coalition of LI is raising awareness about tobacco and the harm it does to our families and communities.

Each day, more than 2,500 kids under the age of 18 try smoking for the first time, and more than 400 kids become new, regular, daily smokers. In fact, the average age of a new smoker is just 13 years old!

The tobacco industry uses youth-oriented marketing to make tobacco products seem cool, including brightly colored packaging to make it seem fun and sweet flavors to entice and make them seem harmless. They do this to hook a new generation to tobacco and line their pockets with profits.
