LIRR Announces Construction Work On Ronkonkoma Line Next Month

LONG ISLAND, NY - The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) announced that next monh there will be ongoing track work and construction between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma.

During the month of August, work will continue in preparation for completion of the Double Track Project, which will improve service and reliability on the LIRR’s Ronkonkoma Branch.

According to the LIRR, the project will reduce delays and enable more off peak service in both directions.

The work will including:

  • Installing, testing and cutover of new signal system from Farmingdale through Central Islip.
  • Realigning tracks and removing old switches in Farmingdale by New Highway.
  • Installing a new switch at Carlls Straight Path in Deer Park and aligning a new Mainline track.
  • Construction at Pinelawn and Wyandanch Stations.

Commuters should also be advised that beginning on Monday, August 6, Deer Park and Brentwood South platforms will be out of service for five days. Customers will board and exit trains on the North platform from August 6 through August 10.
