Long Island Ducks Defeated By Lancaster Stormers In Series Finale

The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Stormers on Sunday, ending a four-game series on Memorial Day weekend.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — The Long Island Ducks suffered defeat by the Lancaster Stormers 5-4 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four-game series on home turf at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

According to the Ducks' newsroom, a two-out, two-run single up the middle by Ryan McBroom gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead, giving fans hope in the third inning. The Stormers upped their game, and pulled even in the fourth inning thanks to a wild pitch that scored Shawon Dunston Jr. and an RBI double by Gaige Howard.

Lancaster gained a 3-2 lead thanks to Justin Farmer’s sac fly in the top of the sixth, but a two-run double by Aaron Antonini in the bottom half put the Ducks back on top 4-3. From there, the Stormers claimed the lead in the eighth on a two-out, two-run double down the right field line by Kyle Kasser.

According to the Ducks, Stephen Woods Jr. pitched five innings for the team and allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five.

The Stormers' Nile Ball played six innings, allowing four runs on six hits with four strikeouts while Augie Sylk took the win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning, working around a hit and a walk. Trevor Bettencourt yielded two runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. James Hoyt picked up his first save of the season despite allowing a walk and hitting two batters in the ninth.

Ivan Castillo and Tyler Dearden each had two hits and a run to lead the Ducks offense.

In April, the Ducks kicked off the summer season with a 6-2 opening night victory against the Stormers at home at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

The Ducks are back at it Tuesday night opening a three-game series against the Gastonia Baseball Club at 6:35 p.m. at home.
