NY 4th Senatorial Democratic District Primary: What You Need To Know

Two candidates are running to fill the Democratic spot for New York State Senate, District 4. Here's what you need to know.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Voters are set to head to the polls for the New York State 4th Senatorial District's Democratic primary on Tuesday.

Two candidates are facing off for the primary in the district:

Assemblyman Phil Ramos has represented Assembly District 6 since 2003. A former Suffolk County detective for about 20 years, he emphasizes the support of law enforcement, as well as funding civic organizations and communities in need.

Monica Martinez is a former New York State Senator who represented the 3rd Senatorial District from 2019 to 2021. Her main issues are supporting public school's, women's rights, and gun legislation. She is also registered to run in the general election on Nov. 8, representing the Working Families Party.

Either candidate will face Wendy Rodriguez, the Republican candidate, in the Nov. 8 general election.

Senator Phil Boyle (R), who currently holds the position, is not seeking re-election.

Suffolk County communities in the 4th Senatorial District include Deer Park, Babylon, North Babylon, Brightwaters, Bay Shore, West Islip, West Babylon, Baywood, and parts of Brentwood, Islip, Lindenhurst, Gilgo Beach and Fire Island.
