Pedestrian Critically Injured In Early AM Central Islip Crash: Police

Suffolk County Police detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A pedestrian on Connetquot Avenue near Atlantic Street was hit by a northbound car and critically injured Friday morning, police said.

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives said Philip Reddy was driving a 2016 Chevrolet on Connetquot near Atlantic Street at 6:20 a.m. when his car struck Richard Mateo, who was walking south on Connetquot Avenue.

Mateo, 47, who is homeless, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore in serious condition, police said.

Reddy, 39, of Bay Shore, was not injured. His vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
