New Details Emerge In Plane Crash At MacArthur That Left 2 Dead: PD

RONKONKOMA, NY — New details have emerged about the crash at Long Island MacArthur Airport Monday night that left two men dead, officials said.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza A36 crashed near the end of the runway at 6:14 p.m.

Suffolk County Police said the pilot attempted to take off heading south from runway 6 but crashed while attempting to return to the same runway; the male pilot and his adult male passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No other injuries were reported, police said.

The bodies were moved to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner for positive identification; the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are responding, police said.

The names of the men are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate; the NTSB will be in charge of the investigation, the FAA said.
