Runaway Sailboat Up For Auction At Suffolk Police Marine Bureau: PD

Suffolk County Police Department​ Marine Bureau is auctioning off a 28-foot 1978 Neptune 24BC sailboat on Wednesday, police announce.

ISLIP, NY — Sailing season is here, and the Suffolk County Police Department is auctioning off a sailboat on Wednesday.

The public has a chance to bid on a 28-foot 1978 Neptune 24BC at 9 a.m. on June 26, rain or shine, at the Suffolk County Police Department Marine Bureau at 150 River Road in Great River.

The boat will be available for preview on June 25 between 9 a.m. and noon and again for one hour prior to the start of the auction.

The starting bid is $100 and the boat will be sold as-is.

The sailboat was found adrift in Bellport Bay and owner could not be located, police said.

Police said the boat does not come with a trailer and it will be the buyer’s responsibility to remove it from police property.

The boat can be dropped in the water at the Marine Bureau dock, police said.
