Suffolk SPCA Raising Money To Help Injured Dog

The dog was found tethered on a short leash. He was left for over a week with severe injuries.

BRENTWOOD, NY - The Suffolk County SPCA started a fundraising campaign to help a one-year-old dog who was rescued after being left tethered on a short leash outside for over a week.

Last Wednesday the SPCA received a call that Frankie, a male beagle mix, was tethered on a short leash with no water available in a truck yard in Brentwood.

He had a severely injured leg that was dislocated, a broken bone, an open wound and injury to his hip joint. The injury to his leg was so severe that it impaired his ability to walk.

According to the SPCA, Frankie had been allegedly struck by a car over a week before without receiving any veterinary care.

Now, the organization is working to raise money to pay for his surgery so Frankie will be able to walk again.

A fundraising campaign was created by members of the SPCA on GoFundMe Thursday to help raise $6,000 for the surgery.

"Please help Frankie so his leg does not have to be amputated," a message on the page reads. "Frankie has suffered enought in his short life. Let's give him a new leash on life."

The owner, Amner Mendoza, 44, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty, according to the SPCA.
