Suffolk PD's 190th Recruit Class Set To Graduate Thursday

The new Suffolk County Police Department officers spent the last 31 weeks of academy training with more than 1,000 hours of instruction.

BRENTWOOD, NY — A new class of Suffolk County Police officers will be looking good in blue.

The Suffolk County Police Academy is holding a graduation ceremony for its 190th recruit class on Thursday, at 10 a.m., at Suffolk County Community College-Grant Campus, Suffolk Federal Arena.

As part of their training, the recruits completed 31 weeks of academy training with more than 1,000 hours of instruction including law, emergency medical training, domestic violence, anti-bias training, mental illness, cultural diversity, terrorism and body-worn camera technology.

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine and Suffolk County Acting Police Commissioner Robert Waring will preside over the graduation ceremony.

According to the police department, out of the 136 SCPD recruits, 31% are minorities, 41% have prior law enforcement experience and 18% have military experience.

In addition to the Suffolk County Police recruits, 39 recruits will graduate and join the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, East Hampton Town Police Department, Farmingdale State College Police Department, Garden City Police Department, Riverhead Town Police Department, Southampton Town Police Department and Southold Town Police Department.
