ISLIP, NY — Threats made against the Islip Union Free School District have sparked on-campus police presence and an investigation led by Suffolk County Police Department.

In an email to "Islip families, faculty, and staff," a district administrator said it was made aware of "threats against the Islip community in general and Islip Schools specifically."

Police told Patch that they were "notified of a social media exchange between two former high school associates (a male and female) during which the male made threatening statements toward the woman and the Islip School District."

"The man, who has been identified, has yet to be located by police. SCPD will have a presence at the school during extra-curricular activities this week as well as when school returns from spring break next week," police said.

Although Suffolk County schools are on spring break, the district is hosting three sports games this week which will have a police presence, the email said.

"We have informed all of our coaches of the threat and have shared with them a photo of the individual who allegedly made the threats. We have also added additional security personal this week. There will be increased police presence as well," the administrator wrote in the email.

Additionally, there will be a "police presence at each building" when the school reopens on Monday.

School representatives were not immediately available for comment.
