Veterans' Affairs Advocate Honored By Street Renaming In Islip

Islip hosted a street renaming ceremony in honor of Nina Cooley, co-founder of AMVETS Post 18 and Ladies Auxiliary.

ISLIP, NY —The life and legacy of Nina Cooley—founder of AMVETS Post 18 of East Islip and its Ladies Auxiliary—was honored during a street renaming in East Islip.

Cooley's legacy will live on thanks to nearly 100 East Islip community members and town officials who gathered on June 20 for a ceremonial renaming at the intersection of Fawn Drive and Grenadier Lane, now known as Nina Cooley Way.

"Nina Cooley dedicated her life to service and advocacy, passionately focusing on veterans’ affairs and the AMVETS organization," Islip town officials told Patch.
