2 Brooklyn High Schools Among Top 10 In State: Ranking

BROOKLYN, NY — Two Brooklyn high schools rank among New York's best, according to the 2023-2024 Best High Schools rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.

Brooklyn Technical High School ranked number 8 in the state with Brooklyn Latin School following immediately behind, according to the ranking.

Nationally, Brooklyn Technical ranked No. 56 and Brooklyn Latin School trailed in the No. 92 spot.

It's a decent drop in standings for Brooklyn Technical High School, which ranked No. 6 in the city in 2022. Meanwhile, Brooklyn Latin School held steady in the top 10.

Brooklyn Technical earned its prestigious spot on account of its 96 percent graduation rate with over 96 percent reading, mathematics and science proficiency. The school has a 21:1 student-teacher ratio and near complete AP participance with 98 percent of students taking at least one AP exam.

The school enrolls about 5,965 students, 77 percent of which are non-white and two or more races and 59 percent of which are economically disadvantaged, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Brooklyn Latin School boasted a 92 percent graduation rate, 18:1 student-teacher ratio, 96 percent IB participance and over 88 percent proficiency in science, reading and math.

With 844 students enrolled, 59 percent of the school's population was economically disadvantaged and 85.5 percent of students non-white and two or more races, according to U.S. News & World Report.

New York City schools made up the majority of the state's top performers, with last year's winner, Flushing's Townsend Harris High School, taking the No. 2 spot.

Queens High School for the Sciences at York Colleges followed in the No. 3 spot, a one-spot drop from last year.

Stuyvesant High School took the No. 4 spot, with Staten Island Technical High School rounding out the top 5 statewide.
