APTA Launches Skilled Nursing Special Interest Group With Bklyn Rehab

Sigma Rehab in Brooklyn Working With National APTA Geriatrics to Begin New Special Interest Group Focusing on Post-Acute Rehab Care

(BROOKLYN, NY/MADISON, WI) - APTA Geriatrics, an Academy of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), has launched a Skilled Nursing Facility Special Interest Group (SIG) this month with Brooklyn-based Sigma Rehab/Centers Health Care and Therapy Management Corporation (TMC) in Florida.

The primary purpose of the Skilled Nursing Facility SIG is to provide a forum and preferred channel for sharing information and resources and promoting professional networking and advocacy efforts among members related to the sub-acute rehabilitation/skilled nursing facility practice settings. The group was formed because there was no other venue for APTA members who work in sub-acute rehab (SNF) to collaborate, network, and work together. APTA Geriatrics was the obvious host for this new group as 14 percent of its members currently identify as working in a SNF practice setting. Comparatively, APTA estimates approximately five to six percent of its members work in the SNF/LTC setting.

Richard White, PT, DPT, Corporate Rehabilitation Director of Education and Clinical Practice at Sigma Rehab/Centers Health Care will serve as the Chair of the Skilled Nursing Facility SIG, alongside Kevin Cezat, PT, Director of Clinical Excellence at TMC, as Vice Chair and Travis Womer, PT, Corporate Director of Reimbursement, Operations and Development at Sigma Rehab/Centers Health Care, as Secretary. White, Cezat, and Womer have to advocate the SIGs purpose and objectives and serve as a clinical resource to the Academy in skilled nursing facilities and for practitioners.
