Brooklyn Councilwoman Bit Officer, Arrested At Shelter Protest: Report

BROOKLYN, NY — A Brooklyn councilwoman has been arrested at a homeless shelter protest Wednesday afternoon.

Councilwoman Susan Zhuang has apparently been arrested after she bit Deputy Chief of Patrol Frank DiGiacomo in the arm, according to multiple media reports.

Zhuang, 38, has been charged with second and third-degree assault, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration, ABC7 New York reported.

The protest happened at 25th Avenue and 86th Street in Bensonhurst. Individuals were protesting a proposed men's shelter, according to the report.

A spokesperson for the councilwoman said she was arrested after trying to protect an elderly woman who was being pushed against metal barriers.

Nine people were arrested in total, including Zhuang following the protest.

DiGiacomo was taken to a local hospital for the bite on his arm, according to the report.
