BROOKLYN, NY — Celebrity chef Madison Cowan has been ordered to move out of his Boerum Hill apartment by a housing judge on Wednesday after he stopped paying rent in 2020 and had avoided multiple eviction attempts.

Cowan was a former champion of Food Network shows "Iron Chef" and "Chopped.” He also co-stars on BBC America’s travel series No Kitchen Required, and has cooked for former President Bill Clinton and actress Scarlett Johansson.

According to court records, Cowan has not paid rent since January 2020 on the $2,750 a month one-bedroom apartment. Cowan has repeatedly filed appeals to avoid evictions.

A judge has ordered Cowan’s eviction five other times, court records show.

Last week, marshals tried to evict him again but were turned away because Cowan had filed another appeal, ABC7 New York reported.

Cowan has said he couldn't afford to pay rent and that his livelihood was "seriously impacted by the pandemic," according to the report.

“Based on the respondent failure to satisfy the conditions to bring the order to show cause and payment of use and occupancy – the court is constrained to deny the motion,” Housing Court Judge Kevin McClanahan said in his May 15 decision.

Cowan has 14 days to move out of the apartment, according to the decision. Apparently, he told the judge that he found a new apartment and his sublease begins on June 1, according to court records.
