The nearly 100-year-old brick building was designed by architect Frank J Helme, who designed such iconic New York City buildings as St. Barbara’s Church in Bushwick.

It was once home to the Brooklyn Daily Times, which ultimately inspired the nickname Times Plaza for the intersection of Flatbush, Atlantic and 4th Avenues, according to Brownstoner.

The property's next-door neighbor, once a post office, was also replaced with an apartment building.

Farther down Atlantic Avenue, demolition started in November on a site that will become a 15-story jail complex in Boerum Hill, according to New York YIMBY.
