'I Like Big Mutts And I Cannot Lie,' Shelter Shirts Say

A Brooklyn no-kill shelter is raising money by selling Sir Mix-A-Lot and mutt alum inspired shirts.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- A Brooklyn no-kill shelter that needs funds to keep its pets in kibble hopes the cash will come from those who "love big mutts" and "cannot lie."

The Bath Beach nonprofit Rescue City is peddling Sir Mix-A-Lot- and "mutt alum"- inspired shirts to cover the expense of caring for rescued animals, according to their fundraising site.

Atlas the Mutt appears on the blue t-shirt sporting a gold chain with a slightly adapted quote from the 90s rap star's iconic hit, "Baby Got Back."

Rescue City rescued Atlas from a kill shelter when he was just 6 weeks old and paired with a foster family who "fell head over paws for him," the Bonfire site reads.

"Your participation will help more dogs like Atlas to be saved from desperate situations," the owners added. "It doesn’t take much to make a big difference at Rescue City."

The animal rescuers hope to sell 100 of the mutt-lovers apparel to cover the cost of food, vet examinations, medication, dog beds and more.

Rescue City raised $735 as of Monday morning with 50 of their 100 shirts already sold.

Rescue City was founded by Stella Plit in 2015 and is located on 25th Avenue between Bath and Benson avenues, according to a representative.

The shelter provides foster homes and seeks adoptive families for animals that are strays, abandoned, or at the top of euthanasia lists in shelters, according to Rescue City.
