NEW YORK CITY, NY — Hundreds of flights landing at and departing from East Coast airports were delayed Monday, many of them due to heavy winds, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In the NYC area in particular, the wind was causing delays averaging 1 hour 3 minutes at LaGuardia Airport, 1 hour 20 minutes at JFK Airport and 1 hour 48 minutes at Newark International Airport as of early Monday evening, the FAA said.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, LaGuardia led the pack with more than 300 delays by 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service had issued a hazardous weather outlook for NYC earlier in the day, warning that strong winds beginning around 5 p.m. could cause "isolated power outages," "difficulty driving high-profile vehicles" and "a few tree limbs downed."

And, apparently, a nation full of grounded planes.

You can use either the FAA's website or FlightAware to determine if your flight has been affected.
