Prospect Park To Host Free James Baldwin Concert Tribute

Meshell Ndegeocello's critically acclaimed James Baldwin tribute concert will come to the Lena Horne Bandshell in Prospect Park this week.

BROOKLYN, NY — Bring a picnic blanket to Lena Horne Bandshell to hear a live performance by Grammy Award-winning musician Meshell Ndegeocello, who will perform her critically acclaimed James Baldwin tribute concert later this week.

The concert was previously postponed due to weather, and will now take place on August 14.

During the concert, Ndegeocello will play songs from her funky, genre-bending, newly released album "No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin," which explores the life and work of the legendary writer and Civil Rights Movement activist.

The performance coincides with Baldwin's 100th birthday, offering a new way to experience the visionary's enduring legacy.

The Wall Street Journal has called the album "a dialogue between masters."

The event, which is part of the annual outdoor concert series BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!, is the final free event of the 2024 Prospect Park season. Doors open at 7 p.m.
