Stop & Shop Unveils new Avenue Y Store with 2nd Largest Kosher Section

Sheepshead Bay Location Marks Supermarket's First Brooklyn Remodel as Part of the Company's $140 Million Capital Investment in its NYC Store

Stop & Shop today cut the ribbon at its newly remodeled Avenue Y store located at 1710 Avenue Y in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Avenue Y is the first Brooklyn store to be upgraded as part of the supermarket chain’s $140 million capital investment across its New York City fleet. The store joins Stop & Shop’s Bartow Ave (Bronx) location in offering customers a refreshed look, upgraded format and new amenities that seek to enhance the customer shopping experience and better meet the needs of the diverse neighbors its serves.

At the heart of Stop & Shop’s enhancements to its NYC stores is an expanded product assortment that caters to the diverse neighborhood each store serves. At Avenue Y, customers will see that Aisle 3 is now a 160-foot kosher destination that offers nearly 1,000 kosher products; the second-largest Kosher assortment across Stop & Shop’s 400+ stores. This includes both fresh and frozen kosher meat, fish, dairy, and grocery items with brands such as Jack Bakes, Matzo Project, Dare to be Different and Biolife dairy products. Kosher baked goods are currently available in this section now, with a Kosher bakery expansion planned for the store’s Bakery department later this year. Customers will also find expanded Eastern European, Russian and Turkish products including Mehmet coffee, Crusters and First Choice baked goods, as well an expanded assortment of Halal dairy including Kasbos Market and several new tropical Spanish items.

The store will also have a renewed focus on value, offering more sale bins and special deals on culturally relevant products highlighted in a New York City-specific weekly circular ad. Avenue Y is the second Stop & Shop store in the chain’s New York City fleet to offer the Flashfood mobile app, which gives customers access to produce, meat, dairy, and other grocery items nearing their best-buy date at discounts up to 50% off. Stop & Shop is the first retailer in the city to offer the program, having launched in the Bronx earlier this summer.
