BROOKLYN, NY — A woman was stabbed by her own child over 50 times in her Brooklyn apartment last week, and her pup thrown from the high-rise building, according to prosecutors and reports.

Andre Eugene, 36, now faces murder and animal cruelty charges related to the Jan. 19 attack that killed 58-year-old Donna Hyman — Eugene's mother, according to police and the New York Daily News.

A witness found Eugene — a paraprofessional with the city's Education department — naked and bloodied in front of their shared Starrett City apartment on Hornell Loop about 7 p.m. and Hyman stabbed upstairs, according to a criminal complaint from the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

At first, Eugene told cops Hyman had committed suicide and the dog fell off the balcony — but authorities now suspect Eugene stabbed the woman 56 times, according to the complaint.

Eugene also had stab wounds that police suspect were self-inflicted, according to the Daily News.

Hyman was pronounced dead on the scene and Eugene taken to an area hospital in critical condition, police said. Eugene was arrested Wednesday about 8 a.m. in Brooklyn, police said.

Eugene started working as a city employee in 2014 but was immediately suspended after the attack, according to the Daily News.
