EAST MEADOW, NY — Soaring oil prices mean more pain at the pump for New York residents, with the average gas price already well above the $4 mark across the state.

Gas prices are surging around the country, and are hitting record highs here on Long Island, where the average price for a gallon of regular gas is now $4.353, according to AAA, which is right in line with the average for the state. It's big jump over the last few months, considering the average price a year ago was $2.805.

With the importing of Russian oil about to stop, it's unlikely residents will see relief at the pump any time soon.
