Long Island Youth Orchestra Performs Sunday
Concert in East Meadow to feature music of Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Chadwick
The Long Island Youth Orchestra performs Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Woodland Middle School in East Meadow.
Scott Dunn, music director and conductor of the Long Island Youth Orchestra, will conduct LIYO in an afternoon of orchestral music including Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, Tchaikovsky Theme & Variations from Suite No. 3 and Chadwick’s “Jubilee” and “Noel” from Symphonic Sketches.

Founded by Martin Dreiwitz in 1962, the Long Island Youth Orchestra, has nearly 100 teenage musicians from nearly 40 Long Island communities from Nassau and Suffolk counties. The Long Island Youth Orchestra is in residence at LIU Post and rehearses weekly, presenting a series of four concerts each season, in addition to sponsoring a scholarship competition for LIYO graduating seniors and opportunities for graduating seniors in the orchestra to perform a concerto with LIYO. In addition, LIYO has had over 40 summer tours to all parts of the world.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and are available one hour prior to the concert.
