WESTBURY, NY (December 6, 2023)–Five-term County Legislator and community activist Siela Bynoe has announced her candidacy for New York State Senate District 6. With an unwavering commitment to education, healthcare, environmental justice and economic development, Bynoe aims to bring Long Island to the forefront in the Senate. As a seasoned advocate, her vision for representing District 6 in Albany encompasses a comprehensive approach to the pressing issues facing Long Islanders to ensure a brighter future for everyone.

Following her graduation from Westbury High School, Siela's steadfast passion for education, advocacy, and community service remained a constant throughout her life. Over the years, she has amassed an impressive career across the public, not-for-profit, and private sectors, all dedicated to improving the lives of those in her community. Siela's dedication to public service brought her to the Nassau County Legislature, where she was first elected through a special election in 2014.

“Since coming to Long Island 50 years ago, my mother instilled the belief in me that in the pursuit for a better life, our work is never truly done,” said Legislator Siela Bynoe. “As I embark on this campaign, I carry those lessons she taught–that whatever it is that we achieve there is always more to do.”

Throughout her ten years in the County Legislature, Siela has proven her ability to forge partnerships, while actively spearheading legislation to tackle local issues. Legislator Bynoe is a dedicated supporter of local schools and public education, working diligently to secure aid for these vital institutions. Her commitment also extends to Long Island’s fiscal responsibility, as evidenced by her co-sponsoring legislation to ensure the prevention of wasteful tax spending.
