QUEENS, NY — A Queens man could spend decades in prison after a judge found that he nearly killed the ex-boyfriend of his child's mother in a violent robbery, prosecutors said.

Queens Supreme Court Justice John Zoll found Orlando Plummer, 47, guilty of attempted murder and other charges this week in connection to the armed robbery of McAntoine Valery, 44, who used to date the mother of his child, prosecutors said.

In the hour leading up to the violent robbery on June 14, 2020, Plummer and two friends followed Valery from Forest Hills to Corona in a silver Mitsubishi car, the District Attorney said.

About 4 p.m., Plummer and his accomplices got out of the car and attacked Valery, who was walking near the intersection of Horace Harding Expressway and Calloway Street, according to prosecutors.

As the trio punched Valery repeatedly, Plummer escalated the violence, hitting him in the head with a "hard object," shooting him in the stomach and running off with his backpack, the District Attorney said.

Valery was rushed to a nearby hospital and needed surgery and 36 staples to treat his injuries, which included gunshot wounds to his stomach and back and internal organ damage, according to prosecutors.

"This defendant shot an innocent man following a violent robbery in broad daylight, leaving him clinging to life," said District Attorney Melinda Katz.

"There is no place for such senseless and brutal acts in Queens County."

After a two-week trial, Judge Zoll found Plummer guilty of attempted murder, assault, robbery and criminal weapons charges, for which he now faces a sentence of up to 35 years in prison, the District Attorney said.

Plummer was ordered to return to court on Sept. 6, prosecutors announced.
