QUEENS, NY — The lights appear to be permanently out at a Queens Boulevard appliance chain store — or so think many of its neighbors.

A "for lease" sign plastered to the facade of Rego Park's P.C. Richard & Son prompted speculation this week from neighbors that the shop at 92-63 Queens Boulevard is kaput, despite conflicting signs on the door saying it is temporarily closed for renovations.

The appliance chain also removed the Rego Park outpost from its store locator website, though it is listed as "temporarily closed" on Google.

Amid all the speculation, the chain's owners have been silent: P.C. Richard & Son did not respond to Patch's request for comment as to the status of its Rego Park outpost by the time of this article's publication. Agents listed on the for-lease sign didn't immediately respond to Patch.

Neighbors, though, quickly took to a local Facebook group to comment on the potential permanent closure, many nothing that the renovations seem unbelievable in the face of the for-lease sign.

"The building is available for leasing," one neighbor said, alluding to the for-lease sign. "PC Richard & Son never renewed the lease so they closed it down for good," he speculated — a point that Patch couldn't confirm.

Another neighbor said the so-called temporary closure is anything but. "It has been closed for months," he said of the chain.

While some neighbors were disappointed to hear about the possible closure — one calling it "sad news" — most weren't upset.

One local pointed out that there are several other nearby PC Richard & Son outposts, while others derided the store's employees and parking lot and said they wouldn't be sad to see it close.

Others still said they hoped a store of their liking moves into the building, if it is indeed for lease.

"Bring on Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s please," said one local, echoing a sentiment shared by many other neighbors.
