Glen Cove, NY – In the last few days, Conservative and Republican candidate Mazi Pilip once again squandered opportunities to come clean with voters in NY-03. Both NY1 and WABC extended invitations for separate televised debates to Pilip and former Congressman Tom Suozzi. While Suozzi immediately accepted, Pilip declined and even refused to participate in a one-on-one interview with the stations.

This continues a trend in Pilip’s campaign where it has been well-documented that she declines debates and media interviews and limits her public appearances and interaction with the people of Nassau and Queens.

“The way Mazi Pilip is conducting her campaign it is obvious that not only is she unvetted and untested,” said Suozzi, “but that she is also unprepared and unable to deliver on important challenges like lowering taxes, addressing the border crisis, or protecting women’s reproductive freedom.”

“If she had something to say, she would say it, but instead, she is either hiding from the voters or repeating extreme talk points from her party bosses.”

Instead of hosting debates, NY1 and WABC separately conducted sit-down interviews with Suozzi that ran respectively on NY1’s Inside City Hall with Errol Louis on Thursday, January 25th, and on WABC’s Up Close with Bill Ritter that ran yesterday. Both hosts made a point to highlight the fact that Pilip blew off their invitations.

NY1, Inside City Hall with Errol Louis and Tom Suozzi, 1/25/2024
"We invited both Democratic candidate Tom Suozzi and Republican candidate Mazi Pilip to participate in an in-studio debate tonight, but Pilip turned us down. She has kept a relatively low profile since being nominated by her party last month, only appearing at a handful of public events and interviews. The former Democratic congressman, however, did agree to debate, so he joins me now for an in-studio interview." – Louis reported at the beginning of his interview with Suozzi.

ABC 7 NY, Up Close with Bill Ritter and Tom Suozzi, 1/28/2024
"We thank Tom Suozzi for being on Up Close. By the way, we invited his opponent, Mazi Pilip, to appear on Up Close. Her campaign did not respond to that. We also had offered her to host a debate here in our studio. Mr. Suozzi said yes. Mrs. Pilip’s campaign turned down that offer.” – Ritter reported immediately after his interview with Suozzi.
