East Harlem Taco Spot Named Among 30 Best In New York City

EAST HARLEM, NY — In a point of pride for the neighborhood, a Mexican eatery in East Harlem was just named among the best taco makers in New York City.

Eater New York, the food review and news website, recently published a list of the "30 Outstanding Tacos to Try in NYC."

One of the first names on the list? Taco Mix at 234 E. 116th St. in East Harlem.

"There’s no need to look further than the beautiful twirling cylinder of pork al pastor in the window to know which taco to get," Eater NY wrote. "It’s one of the best tacos in town. Watching the carver at work makes the taco twice as tasty, and there’s an impressive array of toppings, running to dried red chiles, chiles in oil, pickled jalapenos, and an array of colorful salsas. Miniature tacos and a wide variety of traditional fillings are also available."

Taco Mix serves up a variety of options, including the following:

• Taco Arabe: Pork cooked with herbs and spices on a flour tortilla
• Taco de Nopal: Cactus taco, served with cilantro, onions, pico de gallo, lime, radish and cucumbers on the side.
• Birria Tacos: Served with cilantro, onions, and lime.

The Mexican eatery calls its Al Pastor dish the "corner stone" of the restaurant.

"Our unique and slow process gives our Al Pastor the flavorful taste every bit brings to your mouth, and the sweetness of a dash of pineapple is simply a burst of Mexican tradition mixing together with the world," Taco Mix wrote on its website.

It is open daily for takeout from 10 a.m. to 3:40 a.m.
