Harlem Has Among Highest COVID Rates In Manhattan: Data

Two Harlem ZIP codes were among the five highest COVID positivity rates in the borough for the most recent seven-day period.

HARLEM, NY — Harlem has among the highest COVID rates in Manhattan for the most recently available seven days, which includes the start of Hanukkah and Christmas Eve, according to data provided by the city.

A pair of Harlem ZIP codes have among the five highest seven-day positivity numbers in the borough from Dec. 18 to 24, data shows.

The first of those uptown ZIP codes is Central Harlem and East Harlem's 10037, which posted a 21.05 percent positivity during the period, according to data. This elevated rate was produced from 44 new residents testing positive from 209 tests.

The other elevated Harlem ZIP code was Central Harlem's 10039 ZIP code, which posted an 18.9 percent positivity rate during the period.

A total of 35 local residents returned positive from 192 tests, data shows.

Here are the five Manhattan ZIP codes with the highest COVID rates from Dec. 18 to 24.

  • West Village, 10014: 22.04 percent
  • Financial District, 10003: 21.43 percent
  • Tribeca, 10007: 21.43 percent
  • Harlem, 10037: 21.05 percent
  • Harlem, 10039: 18.23 percent

Tottenville in Staten Island posted the overall highest COVID positivity rate in the city during the week at 26.61 percent.

The lowest? Borough Park in Brooklyn at 1.56 percent.

The overall COVID case rate across the city has started to take a downward turn after spiking slightly in the last week of November.

Hospitalizations and deaths are also falling.
