Here's Where Harlem's COVID-19 Rates Stand Amid Citywide Downtick

The COVID positivity rate citywide has fallen to just 3.9 percent for the most recent seven-day average. Here's how that compares to Harlem.

HARLEM, NY — It has been good news on the COVID-19 front in New York City since the beginning of the year.

Starting on the first day of January, the seven-day positivity average in the five boroughs has been significantly falling. In New York City, it has gone from 15.39 percent on Jan. 1 all the way down to 3.9 percent on March 3.

But how does that current citywide number compare to the eight ZIP codes that make up Harlem?

To start with, Harlem has also seen its COVID rate fall significantly since the beginning of the year.

The neighborhood was posting seven-day averages over 20 percent on the first of January, but now doesn't have a ZIP code over 9 percent.

Overall, five of the eight Harlem ZIP codes have a higher seven-day average from Feb. 25 to March 3 than the citywide rate of 3.9 percent, but only one of those areas is significantly higher.

The average COVID percent positivity rate of the Harlem ZIP codes? 4.45 percent.

The eye-catching 10031 ZIP code percent positivity number of 8.45 percent is the fourth highest of any area in New York City. It also had the most new people positive from Feb. 25 to March 3 of any ZIP code in the five boroughs.
