HARLEM, NY — With large swaths of Harlem among the most "heat vulnerable" parts of New York City, residents will want to make a plan for staying cool during a heat wave that has descended on the city this week.

The city is under a heat advisory until 8 p.m. Wednesday as temperatures are expected to feel like 104 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Much of Central and East Harlem are classified with a Heat Vulnerability Index 5, meaning their residents are at high risk of heat injury or death based on typical temperatures, air-conditioning rates, green space and racial inequities.
