Man Punched In 'Homophobic' Attack On Harlem Subway: NYPD

HARLEM, NYC — Authorities are looking for a man who reportedly assaulted and shouted anti-gay slurs at a fellow straphanger on a subway train in Harlem.

Officials are describing the attack as a hate crime.

At about 4:30 p.m. on May 25, a 35-year-old man aboard a downtown A train was approached by a stranger who abruptly grabbed him by the neck as the train pulled into the 125th Street station, police said.

Officials offered no other details about how the dispute began but said that the attacker proceeded to punch the victim in the chest and started making anti-gay statements.

Police said the attacker then fled on foot to an unknown location when the train pulled into the station.

Police have released an image of a man they are seeking in connection to the attack and that the NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.

The suspect is described as a man with a medium complexion, athletic build, and a bald head, aged approximately between 30 and 35 years old. He was last seen wearing a light green shirt, dark green sweatpants, sunglasses and white sneakers.
