HARLEM, NY – Uptown Veg has been serving vegan food in East Harlem for 30 years.

According to the NYC Hospitality Alliance, an industry group that represents the city’s restaurants, it’s also Mayor Eric Adams’ go-to restaurant citywide.

His order? Curry chickpeas, candied yams, and collard greens.

Regardless of how you feel about the mayor, it’s hard to argue with that plate.

Although Uptown Veg has a location in Brooklyn, it’s the East Harlem location, at the corner of 125th Street and Madison Avenue, that Adams says he presently prefers.

Nearby, Deputy Council Speaker & District 8 Member Diana Ayala is a Tres Leches Cafe partisan.

As you might have guessed, she can’t resist the tres leches cake for which the cafe is named.

You’ll find Tres Leches Cafe at 356 E. 112th Street, tucked away in a tiny storefront off 1st Avenue.

On the other side of the town, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine namechecks a local favorite: Lee Lee’s Baked Goods, where Alvin Lee Smalls – Mr. Lee – has been keeping customers “sweet” since 1988.

Just off Frederick Douglass at 283 W. 118th Street, Lee Lee’s is apparently where you might spot Levine noshing on apricot rugelach.
