HARLEM, NY - A new H&M store is slated to open this month in Harlem after the Sweden-based chain closed its 125th Street location earlier this year.

The new site at 100 West 125th St. near Malcolm X Boulevard is set to open Nov. 16 at noon, a company spokesperson told Patch.

The 7,000-square-foot site will offer menswear, womenswear and kids’ apparel, plus mobile checkout and click and collect stations.

The first 100 customers who line up at H&M Harlem 125th Street on opening day will receive a free H&M tote bag and gift card with a chance to win up to $100, the spokesperson said.

Bespoke hoodies and tote bags created in partnership with Harlem’s Fashion Row and Harlem School of the Arts will also be offered at the opening day celebration.

The merch collaboration marks the third activation from H&M and HFR in 2023, following the sponsorship of HFR’s 2023 Sustainability Summit and HFR’s 16th Annual Fashion Show & Style Awards.

The old Harlem store was part of a reported 240 locations doomed to shutter, according to Yahoo Finance.

The 125 West 125th Street location closed in August, per the Curious Uptowner. Though company officials declined to provide a reason for the store closure, Patch was sent the following statement:

“Assessing and reviewing our store portfolio to adapt to changing customer behavior is something that we have done ever since we opened our first store. While physical stores will always remain important to us and something we continue to invest in, having the right stores in the right locations is vital to ensure our long-term and sustainable growth.”

Meanwhile, major retailers such as Duane Reade and Target have closed Manhattan locations in recent months, with store representatives citing numerous thefts as reason — at least in part — for the closures.

"Theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests," Target said in a statement before it closed its East 117th St. store in East Harlem last month.

"We know that our stores serve an important role in their communities, but we can only be successful if the working and shopping environment is safe for all.” Read more: NYC Target Store To Close: East Harlem Crime Blamed
