HARLEM, NY — A restaurant serving up an eclectic array of globally inspired tacos has recently made its debut in West Harlem.

Under the guidance of Chef Franklin Becker, Universal Taco melds traditional taco elements with an exciting range of global flavors, featuring options like Korean fried chicken, spiced cauliflower with chutney, tofu banh mi and more.

The new establishment opened its doors earlier this month, replacing the former Spanish-inspired tapas restaurant, Olivia, also overseen by Becker.

A social media post heralding the opening announced, 'Just in time for spring, we’ll be transitioning from tapas to tacos with Universal Taco.'

Situated within Manhattanville Market at the Jerome L. Greene Science Center on 3229 Broadway at 130th Street, Universal Taco stands out with its unique offerings, including the inventive twist of savory churros and a diverse selection of drinks, all complemented by a variety of appetizers.

Customers will also be able to find classic taco flavors such as Baja Shrimp served with avocado, cabbage, and chili-lime aioli and a barbacoa taco, which is made with lamb and served with a consomme broth.

"Becker redefines what it means to eat a taco through an array of international flavors while staying true to tradition," reads the restaurant's website. "Join us as Universal Taco joins the culinary roster for the West Harlem community with a menu that celebrates the cultures that give life to the neighborhood and New York City itself."

The new taco spot is open Monday through Saturday, serving an abbreviated menu from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offering the full menu from 4 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
