HARLEM, NY – P.A.'L.A.N.T.E, or People Against Landlord Abuse and Tenant Exploitation, is hosting its annual Demystifying Housing conference this week at Harlem’s Oberia Dempsey Center at 127 W. 127th Street in Harlem.

The conference, which began on Wednesday, is free to attend and open to all. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

The event connects housing experts and advocates with renters and apartment seekers.

Remaining sessions on Friday include:

  • “Landlords Behaving Badly,” with NYC Council Member Shaun Abreu, at 10 a.m.
  • “So What's New on Mitchell Lama & What Keeps its Tenants Up at Night,” with NYC Council Member Gale Brewer, at 11 a.m.
  • “Where Do We Go from Here?” with U.S. Representative Adriano Espaillat, at 12 p.m.
  • “How to Apply & Where to Go for Affordable Housing Lotteries to Rent or Purchase,” at 2 p.m.
  • “The Nuts & Bolts on How to Purchase Your First Home,” at 3 p.m.
  • “Inside Baseball: How to Access Your Right to Counsel in Every Borough & How Each Housing Court Works,” at 4 p.m.

Founded in 2006, P.A.'L.A.N.T.E. Harlem began as an informal group of tenant associations and has since grown into a formidable network of housing advocates.

It’s office is located at 1411 Amsterdam Avenue, between 129th and 130th Streets, and is generally open Monday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
