Public Bathrooms Set To Reopen At 2 Major Harlem Train Stations

Bathrooms will reopen at multiple 125th Street stations beginning on a rolling basis Monday, according to the MTA.

HARLEM, NY — A pair of major Harlem subway station's bathrooms will reopen soon with much-needed upgrades, city officials announced this week.

A total of 36 bathrooms at 18 subway stations across the city will begin reopening to the public on Monday, including at the 125th Street A, B, C, and D station, along with the 125th Street 4, 5, and 6 station.

“Reopening bathrooms is another way for New York City Transit to provide customers relief when they have to go on the go for a more comfortable experience in the subway,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey, in a news release.

The bathrooms, one male and one female, will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a one-hour closure for cleaning from noon to 1 p.m.

  • New motion activated faucets
  • New hand dryers, dispensers
  • New/painted privacy panels
  • New lighting
  • Tile grouting
  • New signage reflecting hours of operations
  • Paint ceiling
  • Deep cleaning efforts

It is unclear when exactly the 125th Street station bathrooms will be open, but the "vast majority" of bathrooms within the system will be open by Labor Day at the latest.

“These refreshed and reopened bathrooms, delivered by the Stations and Facilities divisions at our Department of Subways, show that NYCT is committed to providing faster, safer, and better service to customers across the subway system," Davey added.
