LONG BEACH, NY — Long Beach residents who love an ice cold beer are in luck, as the Bright Eye Beer Company Brewery is expected to open sometime in September or October, owner Luke Heneghan told Patch.

The brewery will be located at 50 West Park Ave., in a building that was vacant for two years. It received approval from the Board of Zoning Appeals in September 2018 for a plan to complete an $800,000 renovation of the location, according to Newsday.

The building was previously occupied by the McLellan's Five and Dime and the Long Beach Craft and Variety store. Both closed in September 2016. The proposal for the brewery received no opposition, according to Newsday.

Asked about why residents should be excited about the brewery, Heneghan kept it simple.

"Our goal is to make great beer," he said. "That's the main thing, and we're local."

Heneghan grew up in the area and went to grade school in Long Beach.

The Bright Eye Beer Company will emphasize beer. Despite the fact that it won't serve food, it plans to partner with local restaurants and vendors to host food stands and showcase local artists.

The inside of the location will contain a 15-barrel brewhouse and a taproom bar.
