Challenger Hodge Thin Lead In LB City Council Primary; Recount Likely

James Hodge, the former MLK Center chairman, was ahead by just 9 votes, as three Democrat incumbents look to reach to the general election.

LONG BEACH, NY — The Democratic primary for the Long Beach City Council has the three incumbents looking to keep their seats against newcomer James Hodge.

Hodge, who spent more than two decades in the City of Long Beach, had a lead in a tight race.

Hodge, a former Board Chair at the MLK Center, has 816 votes, just nine votes in front of Elizabeth Treston.

"I am extremely grateful to the voters," Treston said. "I will do my best to represent all of our residents, as I do every day, in the general election in November."

The top three finishers advance to the general election. Tina Posterli has 749 votes, while Karen McInnis has 732 votes, according to unofficial results from the Nassau Board of Elections.

Given such a close margin between the four opponents, it's believed that there will be a recount to decide the primary's outcome.
