Cooking With Fire—in the Belly

We got it made in Long Beach, right? Well, maybe not all of us; some of us have not done as well as others.

But many of us do something about it.

We have a great life: by the sea, by the sands, by the boards we bike and trek. But some of us, well, they need just a little help.

I’ve learned of those who pitch in to offer some help—and I was amazed.

I checked out the Long Beach Soup Kitchen and I learned so much. If you don’t know much about “The Kitchen" you might learn something too.

It’s run by a fantastic human being, Robert Blau. His story alone is worth the read. But I’ve also learned of many other individuals and organizations which take part in helping others through the Long Beach Soup Kitchen. I didn’t know about them, and I’m so glad I now do.

Some of the people I speak of you’ve already heard about, you know of their compassion, their influence in making a difference in Long Beach. But you might not know of others. The people like you and me, people we might pass on the boards, or surf with or, just splash with in the sea.

I’m a newcomer to Long Beach by the standards of of many I’ve met. I’m only here twenty years. But even before I moved here I saw it as a cool place.

However, the more I write essays about the places, the people, and their hearts, I find it’s way more than cool. I’ve found Long Beach has within it a model, which I hope, through my humble essay, other communities might copy.

It’s a place where so many are Cooking With Fire—in the Belly.

Be well,
Leebythesea
