Corey Lovrich Mourned at St. Ignatius

Former Long Beach High School lacrosse star remembered at service on Wednesday.

Family and friends of Corey Lovrich, the 21-year-old former Long Beach High School lacrosse starter who died last week of cancer, mourned his loss at St. Ignatius Church on Wednesday morning.

A 2009 graduate of Long Beach High School, Lovrich, known as "C-Love," was the captain of the start-up lacrosse team at Jacksonville University, playing two seasons with the Dolphins. After being diagnosed with stage-three colon cancer last spring, he underwent months of chemotherapy and treatment, after which his disease went into remission. Earlier this year, he was given permission to resume athletic training, but in recent weeks he once again became ill and died on May 31.

At Wednesday’s funeral service, some of Lovrich’s friends and teammates wore T-shirts from a benefit that his family held for him last year, featuring a drawing of him playing lacrosse on the front and his jersey number 88 on the back.
