LIDO BEACH, NY — With the anticipation of much more beach traffic, the state has announced two south shore bridges are near completion. But the Department of Transportation is pausing construction until after the summer.

The $13.1 million project started last fall on the Loop Parkway drawbridge, installing new galvanized steel bridge decks, and the Meadowbrook Parkway drawbridge over Sloop Channel.

New surfaces will improve the structures to extend their service life.

With additional segments to continue until the spring of next year, the DOT will resume traffic shifts in mid-September.

"We are ensuring that residents and visitors spend less time in their cars and more time enjoying these attractions with family and friends," Gov. Hochul said in a statement.
