LONG BEACH, NY — A community is saying its final farewell to a teenager. Long Beach High School senior Gerrin Hagen died on Friday, a day after he was hit by a driver while riding his skateboard, News 12 reported.

"As many in our community know, Gerrin was a wonderful student, a talented athlete, and a friend to so many. His loss is a tremendous one for our school community." Dr. Jennifer Gallagher wrote on the school's website.

He loved playing hockey and lacrosse and working as a lifeguard, News 12 said.

Hagen was riding his skateboard on Thursday night on Cantiague Lane in Hicksville.

"Thank you for the texts, calls, messages, food, hugs, and the genuine outpouring of love," a relative, Sara Brennan Hagen wrote on Facebook. "Everyone who reached out to me, I asked to pray for a miracle. I believe we were all praying as much and as hard as we could. While we didn’t get the miracle we hoped for, we did get a miracle. Gerrin Michael Hagen is our miracle."
