ICYMI: Long Beach Irish Day is Next Weekend

The streets around the city will be painted green for the annual event.

Long Beach's annual Irish Day is set for Saturday, Oct. 1.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians sponsors the annual event, which is in its 27th year. Officially, it's the Saint Brendan the Navigator Irish Heritage Day Parade and Festival -- but everyone calls it Irish Day.

The day will begin with a parade at 11 a.m. down West Beach Street. The parade features dancers, bagpipe bands and many local and Irish organizations.

After the parade, families can spend the day at the festival, which has live Irish music, Irish-centric vendors, food, drinks and fun for everyone. The city is sponsoring a Kids Fun Zone from noon to 4 p.m. in the West School yard on Maryland Avenue. There will be rides, games, music and more. There is a fee of $5 per child for children under 12. In the event of rain, the kids zone will be held inside the gym of West school.
