Large Turnout For Funeral Of Island Park's Former Fire Captain

ISLAND PARK, NY — Family, friends and family gave their final farewells to Michael Fischer on Thursday. The 38-year-old former captain of the Island Park Fire Department died suddenly on Sunday during a Peter's Clam Bar fundraiser.

At the line of duty funeral, Fischer, who lived in Island Park, was honored by an American flag draped across two fire trucks' ladders. Nassau County Drum and Bagpipes performed their solemn notes at the procession outside of Sacred Heart Church.

Departments from across Nassau County were represented at the funeral.
